Fragrance gets in on the act

Our collaboration with the biennial Manchester International Festival continues this year with briefs to create fragrances for two very different performances.

In the much anticipated Skriker, a landmark revival of the Caryl Churchill play, a menacing shapeshifter seeks revenge for the damage inflicted on a broken world.  The audience is unsettled from the beginning with an imposing forest set design which leads from foyer to stage The Skriker - Photography Jonty Wilde– made all the more sinister by the diffusion of smells of decay. The heady, musty aroma of lilies has been injected with an undertone of rotting flesh and disinfectant to create a foreboding sense of death; helping to create an unnerving atmosphere for this electrifying show.

This is in complete contrast to The Tale of Mr Tumble – a funny, engaging and visually exciting show for children. Here our fragrances have been used to add a multi-sensory dimension to the story of Mr Tumble’s journey Tale of Mr Tumble - Photography Jonty Wildefrom bouncing baby to colourful entertainer. Presented on bespoke scratch and sniff cards – created in the shape of Mr Tumble’s well-known spotty bag – audience members are invited to enjoy the sweet aroma of hot chocolate, floral notes of a rose garden and the damp, earthy smells of an underground basement.

Skriker runs from 1-18 July with an extended run following the Festival, while The Tale of Mr Tumble can be enjoyed from 11-19 July.
