“I am very proud to represent such a creative and inspiring industry.  The fragrances we create are enjoyed and experienced by consumers around the world every day; my aim is to raise the BSP’s profile and promote what we do in a positive way,” commented Kate, who plans to push forward with a number of initiatives proposed by the society’s members.

Items on the agenda include championing the BSP’s annual ‘Perfumery Excellence Awards’ which is the only UK event to recognise the perfumers role in creating fragrances for personal care, household and laundry products as well as fine fragrance.   Equally important is the development of BSP accredited fragrance training sessions and educational workshops which will be open to anyone with an interest in the industry.

Formerly BSP vice president, Kate takes over from immediate past president Peter Whipps who remains an active member of the Council, while fellow perfumer at Firminech, Wessel-Jan Kos, was elected vice president.

With a Masters in psychology and training in Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), Kate has 13 years industry experience.  Linked to the Department of Psychology at Liverpool John Moores University and Stirling University, she is also currently involved in several studies exploring the psychological effects of fragrance.

The next BSP event will be a Northern Meeting and promises to bring history to life.  Full details are still under wraps so check back for further updates.
